Keelhaul's Triumphant Return to Obscurity is the band's first record in six years, and it finds these thugs doing what they've always done best: striking a tenuous balance between chops-laden math rock and post-Eyehategod scum-metal. It's a totally riveting listen. No matter how technical the band gets, it never surrenders its love for punishing grooves, raw power and manic group interplay. And yet they never sound sloppy or out of control. Keelhaul even adds touches of post-punk and psychedelia.
