This collection from the late 1950s finds the guitarist Kenny Burrell in an upbeat jam session with Art Blakey, Junior Cook, Bobby Timmons, and others. A superlative set that falls somewhere between uptown hard bop and chicken shack blues, though the couple of shimmering romantic ballads are more in keeping with the mood of the cover art (drawn by a pre-fame Andy Warhol). Props to Grant Green but Kenny Burrell remains the essential Blue Note guitarist.
