The French-speaking Keren Ann recorded these English-language songs on a whim, and they earned her a surprise U.S. release and a large amount of critical acclaim. Keren is still working with the bizarrely talented Benjamin Biolay here, but the songs are even quieter than before, with Biolay's orchestrations more felt than heard. Repeat listening reveals depth and emotion under the glacial surface prettiness.
