Livin' A Tremé Life

Livin' A Tremé Life by Kermit Ruffins
Released: Apr 2009
Label: Basin Street
A New Orleans institution, Kermit Ruffins is a trumpeter/singer/bandleader and Louis Armstrong torch-bearer who finally earned national exposure with a recurring role on the HBO show Treme. This 2009 set, named after the central New Orleans neighborhood that Ruffins calls home, lays out the trumpeter’s feel-good, crowd-pleasing vibe, his vibrant, straight-forward playing style and his knack for connecting original issue jazz with the city’s more modern, funkier styles (check out the covers of “High Heel Sneakers” or the horn-backed jaunt through “I Can See Clearly Now”). He even performs Horace Silver’s timeless “Song For My Father” - an American paying tribute to his African, European and Island roots.
