David Bowie is considered the prince of mid-'70s glam/proto-punk. But back in the day there were several talented dudes exploring similar turf. On 1970's Shooting at the Moon, Kevin Ayers does it all: wiry glitter rock, musique concrete, proggy bombast, electronic music and Syd Barrett-inspired psych pop. Best of all, he fuses his many interests into just four compositions, with three breaking the 10-minute mark. Of course, Shooting at the Moon isn't an easy listen, but its rewards are many.
