Sure, Philadelphia songwriter Kevin Michael borrows elements of reggae, contemporary R&B and post-Stax strut, but his self-titled collection of buoyant tunes feels most deeply connected to the musical legacy of his hometown's soul '70s movement. An early guest spot by Wyclef Jean displays his omnivorous appetite for affable, melodic urban hybrids, and the best here, like "It Don't Make Any Difference to Me" and "Weekend Jumpoff" are catchy as all get-out. Still, our fave is the ode to undies, "Vicki Secrets."
