You can't judge a book by the cover, but you can always tell that an Americana band is going to be good when all the guys in the band are wearing really nice brown and black vintage suits and blazers. Charlottesville, Virginia's King Wilkie are such an outfit in such outfits. Low Country Suite finds them wandering off from their former bluegrass leanings toward more heartfelt songcraft. With deep, rich harmonies and bittersweet melancholia, "The Raising of the Patriarchs" and "Stone and Steel" sound like Joe Pernice reunited the Scud Mountain Boys. "Angeline" gets honky-tonky in all the right places.
