K'Jon surprised industry watchers when his 2009 album, I Get Around, topped the R&B charts with little media attention. But the Detroit singer is no upstart. He spent years on the indie-soul circuit, occasionally popping up on major projects like the 2 Fast 2 Furious soundtrack and Shareefa's Point of No Return. Former Hot Boyz rapper B.G., of all people, was the first to give him a solo deal via Chopper City Records. K'Jon's debut, This Is Me, released in 2006. Two years later, he dropped Ballroom Xplosion and the single "On the Ocean." The song caught fire on adult R&B stations, attracting the attention of Universal Records. When the label released I Get Around, K'Jon drew plaudits for his smooth, grown, and sexy style.
