K'naan's More Beautiful Than Silence EP is a preview of his third album. It's not as graceful as his 2009 Troubadour breakthrough: He touts his childhood in war-torn Somalia like an African 50 Cent. "One time for my thugs overseas," he says on "Better," a decent attempt at the pop-rap that Lupe Fiasco specializes in. He keeps pace with Nas on "Nothing to Lose," and pays homage to the Eddie Murphy movie Coming to America by looping the soundtrack's Ladysmith Black Mambazo vocal. "I'm not prince of Zamunda," says K'naan. Still, he seems intent on crossing over to the U.S.
