by Kris Allen
Released: Nov 2009
It's strange to feel sorry for the winner of American Idol, but Kris Allen does seem poised to suffer from Ruben Studdard syndrome. Compared to his flashier runner-up Adam Lambert, Allen's debut feels incredibly ... stable -- which is precisely why we don't need to feel sorry for him. Allen's charm is in his stability (and in his pretty, earthy vocals), both of which give him his ability to pull off well-crafted, heartfelt, decidedly non-flashy tracks like the blue-eyed blues of "Can't Stay Away" or "Red Guitar," his moving tribute to his wife. In short, Kris Allen will be all right.
