Listening to Kristinia DeBarge's debut single, it's easy to forget the singer is only 19. "Goodbye" is sassy, self-possessed and jaded, a vibe "Somebody" and "Powerless," with their dark-hued vocals and intense beats, continue. On much of the rest of the album, however, DeBarge exposes her age, or lack thereof. Tracks like the ABBA-esque "Doesn't Everybody Want to Fall in Love" feature teenager-in-love lyrics, a kind of '80s mall-pop style and vocals so sweet and high that it's almost like another singer. It's fluffy to be sure, but also refreshing to hear a young singer acting her age.
