St. Luke Passion
Released: Oct 2003
The Warsaw National Philharmonic are among Poland's top choirs and orchestras. Here they tackle an important work from fellow countryman Krysztof Penderecki; this is a fairly early work for the composer. He's fusing sacred themes and the avant garde, namely serialism, which was a big deal in the late '60s. Despite its radical nature (the dynamics are extreme), St. Luke Passion is stylistically varied, possessing aspects of traditional harmony and melody.
