Las Número Uno
Released: Oct 2010
One of two groups with “Banda el Limon” in their name, La Original Banda el Limon was founded by clarinetist Salvador Lizarraga in the 1960s and has been playing in various iterations ever since. And they sound like it. That’s not to say that the tracks here sound out-of-date: The soulful vocals, jaunty beats and bright horns make tracks like “No Ocupo Oro Para Brillar” sound as vibrant and vivacious as any banda whipper-snappers. But there is a kind of stateliness to much of the album, beginning with the slow, elegant “El Destino,” that only comes with being (one of) the Originales.
