Lady Lamb the Beekeeper is Aly Spaltro, a folk girl with a hard-rockin' edge: She's Okkervil River in one tiny package, Regina Spektor with a taste for the country. She's got a coo that'd calm an ocean, a howl that'd swirl it all into a hurricane. Her lengthy, poetic narratives meander through fields of love, loss, betrayal and Jesus, and they're offered via simple acoustic picks ("Florence Berlin"), brassy sass ("Aubergine") and bluesy twang ("You Are the Apple"). "I'm singing songs and I ain't stoppin'!" she yowls on "Bird Balloons." We hope she sticks to that promise.
