My Brothers Keeper (Explicit)
Released: Aug 2006
Label: Fast Life Music
Two of New York's most grimy underground rappers collaborate for an album that's about exactly what you'd expect: under-produced soul loops cradling frosty and fatalistic tales of nefarious drug game glory. As pop music, it's not very accessible or catchy; but as ghetto cinema verite, it's pretty damn compelling. Lake has a flat voice and has always been more renowned for his body count than his couplets, so the tracks that highlight partner-in-rhyme Cormega are considerably more satisfying.
