When The Sun's Gone Down

When The Sun's Gone Down by Langhorne Slim
Released: Apr 2005
Label: Narnack Records
It might sound like it was recorded in a New Deal-era Mississippi church basement, but Langhorne Slim's first full-length was actually pieced together from sessions he led in various apartments throughout Brooklyn in 2004. Banjo 'n' organ swingers like "In the Moonlight" and "Loretta Lee Jones" shimmy up against slow, tender ballads like "I Ain't Proud" and "Drowning," with Slim's lyricism witty and his voice a bit unhinged. "Electric Love Letter" is the centerpiece, full of gospel-soul testifyin' as vintage as Victrola vinyl.
