Trains and Boats and Planes
Laura Cantrell
Released:
Apr 2008

Diesel Only Records
Cantrell's wistful songwriting is all about filtering classic Nashville though a contemporary lens, but it's her voice -- pure and clear, beautiful in its bareness -- that makes her so instantly enjoyable. There's hardly a misplaced note amongst the snappy shuffles ("Howard Hughes Blues," "Roll Truck Roll") and midtempo country shimmers ("Silver Wings") of this LP themed by wanderlust, but the cover of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" is so perfectly suited for her that it inspires chills.
