Released: Jan 2006
Label: Parlophone UK
Originally commissioned in 2006 by Nike for jogging music, "45:33" is a single three-quarter-hour disco fantasia. The analog keyboards make a wide bed, hand-claps and synthetic percussion fuel the groove, and the melodic flourishes James Murphy has always favored come to ecstatic life. Listen closely for an early blueprint of '07's "Someone Great," heed the emotional see-saws the different sections inspire, and dig the ambient come-down. Definitely music for life's long-distance marathons, not its short sprints. (Now includes the drum-circle-inspired B-side, "Hippie Priest Bum-Out".)
