Ledisi is an excellent singer, and she uses her interpretive skills to shining effect on Pieces of Me. Whether she's ruing the price of modest fame on the title track, comparing love to a strong cup of "Coffee," and declaring how she misses an old flame on "I Miss You Now." The only quibble about Ledisi is that although she has a powerful and emotive voice, it's not very distinctive, and her balladic love songs tend to run together over the course of an hour. Pieces Of Me may be best enjoyed piecemeal.
