The title contains two jokes. Not one of these cats qualifies as a young'un -- nor is their approach to abstraction reminiscent of a jejune firebrand. Konitz, the nominal leader of this pickup group, is a standard-bearer of the warmest possible approach to jazz deconstruction. Enabled by the subtle guitar work of Bill Frisell (who shines on "Body and Soul"), the group makes sweet-and-sour love to a bevy of classics. For those familiar with "What Is This Thing Called Love," there's a game to be had in figuring out the approach. For everyone else, the set offers a fine intro to Konitz's art.
