Essential Lester Flatt and the Nashville Grass
Lester Flatt
Released:
Jan 2003
Label:
Cmh Records
These classic recordings of the bluegrass giant venturing outside his familiar Foggy Mountan Boys/Flatt & Scruggs territory are a solidly played and practically archetypal entry into the lexicon of American folk music, as well as the style Flatt helped invent. That means the vocals are wonderful, the banjo and guitar may as well be linked telepathically, and the fiddle always fits just right. "Drink That Mash and Talk That Trash" is a song every person alive should probably hear once, and the blistering instrumental "Shuckin' the Corn" is about as awesome as bluegrass gets.
