By the time Every Dog Has Its Day was released in 1988, Let's Active were on their last legs, creatively. Mitch Easter was an in-demand producer (R.E.M.) and the band was reduced to a revolving line-up of musicians who fell under Easter's tutelage. Clearly, Every Dog, with its beefed-up jangle-pop sound (courtesy of John Leckie), was their bid for commercial success. Despite a handful of tuneful, offbeat songs such as "Mr. Fool," "Sweepstakes Winner" and the title track, fame eluded Let's Active and Easter threw in the towel shortly after.
