Linda Oh keeps things fluid (and surprising) in her compositions, as well as on the bandstand. On the bassist's third album as a leader, she brings her third solid lineup: Ben Wendel on sax, James Muller on guitar, and Ted Poor on drums. There's less focus on Oh's powerful bass work at all times (though she's never not a strong presence). As the cover art suggests, there's an easy, sparkling-dawn quality to some of these tunes. By contrast, "Yoda" is the heater, with "Blue Over Gold" a close second. And she's still a composer to watch, as the evocative opener "Shutterspeed Dreams" reveals.
