Unbeknownst to most yacht-rock enthusiasts, the West Coast-sounding, late-'70s/early-'80s jams of the Little River Band were born not in Southern California but in Melbourne, Australia. Yet songs like the harmonious "Lonesome Loser" and the electric jazz piano-laden "Reminiscing" sound so steeped in the smooth tones of Cali's moustache-rock scene, it seems safe to surmise that Men at Work's Aussie pride pop was a reaction to the Little River Band. "Playing to Win" is a synth-heavy rocker that will make you want to wear really short cord shorts and a thin purple headband and maybe some fingerless leather gloves.
