by Lloyd Cole
Released: Jan 1985
Label: Capitol Records
Rattlesnakes, the first album by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions, bypassed 1980s stereotypes and opted for a natural sound that recalled the Beatles' Rubber Soul. On this follow-up, production team Langer and Winstanley put plenty of '80s multitrack gloss on things but still manage to keep the Commotions' shimmering folk-rock sound intact. While Easy Pieces isn't as magical as Rattlesnakes, Cole's tunes (including "Pretty Gone," "Rich" and "Perfect Blue") are strong enough to survive the decades. The album was a Top 10 hit in the U.K., while witty single "Lost Weekend" scored plenty of college radio airplay in the U.S.
