Ooh Wee Pretty Baby!
Long John Hunter
Released:
Nov 1999
Label:
Norton Records
Hunter was a mainstay of the El Paso, Tex., scene for years before any of his recordings made it public, and by that time production values and the general role of blues in modern times had changed so drastically that those tapes didn't stand out the way the should have. Thus, these '60s recordings are an absolute joy. Hunter played his rock 'n' blues tango boogie to juke joints packed with a diverse selection of hard partying Texans (read: drunk people). These songs give an idea of just how unstoppably fun those shows were. Hunter's hilarious vocal asides on "El Paso Rock" set the tone.
