Legends of the Grand Ole Opry: Loretta Lynn
by Loretta Lynn
Released: Jun 2008
Label: Time-Life Music
Lynn has been a member of the Grand Ole Opry for longer than most of us have been alive, but this compilation of early performances sounds as fresh as ever. The songs are short -- only one breaks three minutes -- and the banter is shorter. (One line of interest: that "Success," a song about what it does to a marriage, was one of the few songs of hers that Pa Wilburn liked.) Still, all are classics, like "Don't Come Home A' Drinkin'" and "Happy Birthday," in which she packs her bags and wishes her ex a happy birthday so that she doesn't have to do it again later.
