The late, much-missed mezzo is going to inspire vault-digging in the coming years. But that could be good. Even though there's a fine recording of Lieberson singing Bach's cantata Mein Herze schwimmt im Blut already in the discography, a repertoire repeat is no bad thing. This version of BWV 199, cut with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, has a graver feel than one she performed a year earlier with the Emmanuel Music Orchestra. There's probably room in the hearts of most Lieberson fans for both. The Brandenburg is nice, too -- but if you're here, it's to hear Lorraine sing again.
