Sings Peter Lieberson: Neruda Songs (EP)
Released: Dec 2006
The music world suffered a big loss in 2006 with the death of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson, 52, a mezzo-soprano of astounding talent. Her last recording was of a cycle of Pablo Nerudo's love sonnets set by her husband Peter. The delicate, modern arrangements support Lieberson's rapturous voice as she moves from profound joy through fidelity and, finally, to the end of earthly love. The fifth song, "My Love, If I Die and You Don't," ends with her fading, far off cry, "Amor."
