Biography

A Southern soul singer from Clarksdale, Miss., Luther Lackey is the brother of O.B. Buchana, one of the most popular stars of the small but devotion-inspiring regional Chitlin' Circuit scene. Lackey started releasing albums on his own in the late '90s -- occasionally aimed more at country than soul audiences. But to date, his most acclaimed record has been his 2008 soul set, I Should Have Stayed Scared. Daddy B. Nice, the definitive web expert in the Southern soul genre, awarded that record five stars out of five. And at year's end, he showered Lackey with awards, including Best Male Southern Soul Vocalist and Best Southern Soul Arranger/Producer.
