Singularity

Neo-grunge drama queens Mae are back with their third album, and this time, it's personal. Just kidding -- it's always personal with Mae. But where their first two albums punctuated sensitive, driving emo with the occasional snarling riff, Singularity is all about anthemic angst, with the occasional, quieter, hearts-on-their-sleeves moment. Which still makes for quite a lot of variety: "Telescopes" is an old-school post-grunge rocker peppered with a little punk-pop, while "Release Me" is sweet and earnest enough to make it onto a very special episode of the next hot high school-themed TV show.
