This album will slay anyone expecting to hear the Magik Markers who became noise darlings in 2004 and '05. While the band stills sounds as if it's stalking the alleys of late '80s N.Y.C. along with Lydia Lunch and Live Skull, it has ditched improvised jamming for well-crafted tunes. And Magik Markers sound far more sinister because of it. By focusing their attack, they've allowed a newfound tension to course through tracks like "Body Rot" and "Last of the Lemach Line." Damn, even the piano ballads feel menacing.
