Mainliner

Biography

One of the many, many, many projects of Japanese underground music lynchpin Asahito Nanjo, Mainliner are an unspeakably heavy psyche-noise power trio featuring Nanjo and fellow Japanese rock scene big shots Kawabata Makoto of Acid Mothers Temple and drummer Hajime Koizumi. While it's difficult to be entirely accurate with obscure Japanese bands, it's safe to say that between 1999 and 2006, Mainliner released seven records, all featuring the incredibly blown-out guitars, dive-bombing solos and super tripped-out, disembodied vocals for which both Mainliner and High Rise (another Nanjo project) are legendary. Difficult to acquire in the States, Mainliner's albums have been intermittently available through Charnel House, La Musica and the French label Fractal.
