Through the years, Mandate of Heaven has more or less served as an alias for one Greg Pier. While Hun in the Sun doesn't totally scrap that concept, it contains a fuller sound, as if Pier recorded himself fronting a pack of indie-rock vets weaned on Crazy Horse. This development has a lot to do with his songwriting. Instead of lo-fi bedroom jams, MoH goes for more of a vintage hard-rock style here. On the "Porno Kings of the Fourth Reich" you'll even here a shade of Richard Thompson-style folk rock.
