Mare Winningham

Winningham is best known as an actress whose film credits include the Brat Pack vehicle St. Elmo's Fire and the made-for-TV miniseries The Thornbirds. She is also a singer-songwriter with a luminous voice and a pleasant Folk-Rock sensibility that was put to use in the Academy Award nominated film Georgia, in which she credibly portrayed a Bonnie Raitt-style singer. On her most recent release, Lonesomers (1998), she is backed by musicians from the San Francisco Bay Area band Red Meat.
