The Jerome Kern Songbook
Released: Jan 1960
In 1960, Verve placed Margaret Whiting in the same high class songbook setting that worked so well for Ella Fitzgerald. The perpetually underrated Russ Garcia's backing charts alternate between dull orchestral cuts and perfect West Coast jazz tracks that help Whiting perform at her best (checkout "Let's Begin" or "Dearly Beloved"). Not perfect but well worth discovery.
