Martin Solveig

Biography

Martin Solveig is a French house producer and DJ known for his pop inclinations and self-deprecating sense of humor. He got his start as a resident DJ in Parisian clubs like Le Palace and Les Bains Douches, and for the first few years of his production career, his records married French funky house with loping African rhythms and sampled chants. (In fact, he was also a member of Yellow Productions' Africanism collective.) Throughout the '00s he pursued a middle path through the world of tribal and electro-house, fleshing out his tracks with vocals and a hefty dose of pop songwriting. In 2010, a pair of collaborations with Dragonette -- "Hello" and "Girls & Boys" -- completed a shift into radio-ready electro-pop territory. They were accompanied by a series of long-form videos filmed at the French Open, featuring Solveig as a neurotic would-be tennis pro and including cameos from Gael Monfils and Novak Djokovic. He may not have Daft Punk's robot helmets, but there are few French electronic producers with a persona as genial as Solveig's.
