It's hard to find a single track on The Age of Miracles, Mary Chapin Carpenter's 10th full-length, that one would consider country music. More or less leaving Music City U.S.A. in the dust, Ms. Carpenter has fully embraced well-crafted adult-contemporary folk pop. Luckily, she hasn't abandoned her ability to tell a quality story. On tracks such as "Zephyr," "I Was a Bird" and the touching "Mrs. Hemingway" she once again proves she is one of America's more thoughtful lyricists and composers.
