Every single album Meat Loaf has released since Bat out of Hell has been an attempt to recreate Bat out of Hell. You'd think such an aesthetic would produce a bunch of anachronistic drivel. Yet surprisingly enough, Hang Cool Teddy Bear sounds rather modern. It's a dramatic explosion of Springsteen-meets-Queen anthem rock that shares a lot in common with the Darkness, Andrew W.K. and even the Hold Steady. Of course, nobody who digs those bands will give the Loaf the time of day. Oh well, their loss.
