Mel Powell

Mel Powell's piano playing was just as tasty as his big band arrangements. A swift and agile musician, Powell's mainstream jazz recordings from the 1940s and '50s display how well traditional Swing and Bop musicians got on together. He was also a modern classical composer, but this work has not been reissued. Any Benny Goodman album he plays on is worth picking up.
