Grace/Confusion

On his third LP, Memory Tapes' Dayve Hawk expands his fluid chillwave into a vast sea of proggy electronic music (just hear the '70s-rock opulence of "Neighborhood Watch"). Thus, Grace/Confusion may be just that: Each of these six tracks never follows a straight or circular path, but wherever it goes, it gets there with patience and grace. "Thru the Field," "Safety" and "Sheila" pulsate with a disco bounce, yet flow with a dreamy, black-stained aesthetic indebted to The Cure. The eerie "Let Me Be" is a highlight -- its muffled sounds and industrial clinks are fit for an underwater goth party.
