Early into Camilo Lara's third album, it feels like it's trying hard to live up to expectations. What started as a hobby, after all, has made him into a sought-after hipster/rapper/crate-digger who still hangs onto his label exec day job even after getting invited to play Coachella. But by the end, it's clear Lara's having fun again. There's no effort needed as he assembles the flotsam of global culture and runs it through a gauntlet of Mexican music: he assaults "Bittersweet Symphony" with a gang of mariachis, gives NWA an extremely south-of-the-border shout-out," and gets Ad Rock to remix "Alocatel."
