Michael Jackson was a perfectionist who reportedly stashed away albums during his lifetime. So why does his estate keep repackaging the same chestnuts? Immortal plays like yet another greatest hits compilation, albeit remixed into a series of "megamixes" that mostly involve heavy-handed cinematic effects like automatic gunfire (for "Smooth Criminal") and a pop-house beat (for "Dancing Machine/Blame It on the Boogie"). It's a soundtrack to a Cirque du Soleil show based on Jackson's catalog, and the shamelessly sentimental King of Pop probably would have approved.
