As a greatest hits collection, This Is It is limited because the song selection is based on the material Jackson was prepping for his last concerts. But as an archive of material from that series, it's also disappointing, filled mostly with remastered versions of his ... greatest hits. That said, the new title track is a soft, pretty jam sure to induce bittersweet nostalgia. And the demo versions are fonts of MJ's twin essences: sweetness and raw talent. Coupled with the closing poem "Planet Earth," which gestures towards his earnest eccentricity, the album paints a fairly apt picture.
