The follow-up to 2004's Baden-Baden, Los Angeles finds Michaela Melian trusting in the tensile strength of her acoustic sources, setting aside most overtly electronic touches. The title must refer to winged creatures, not the city, because nothing feels constructed here; instead, everything seems blurrily illuminated, as if by halo. Piano marks a stately pace, while digitally processed strings and guitars froth and fizz. Melodies emerge and point to the next signpost, before dissolving back into the mist.
