Biography

Hollywood rapper Mickey Avalon is either the most legit dude ever -- with a history that includes crack cocaine use and male prostitution, and teenie bopper-melting tattoos just above his low-riding jeans -- or his fast-food hip-hop style is the note-perfect, ultra-cynical construct of a major-label exec. The answer is likely somewhere in the middle. At the behest of MTV personality and friend Simon Rex, Avalon (born Yeshe Perl) began rapping in the L.A. area in the early '00s. He was soon signed to Interscope, and his self-titled debut appeared in 2006. With a bored sneer, Avalon raps about drugs, his experiences on the streets and rich Hollywood women's love for his genitals. Regardless of the suspicions raised by his sleazy tales, Avalon's hipster flow is undeniably his own, making it difficult to write him off as pure product. Plus, anyone who inspires such division between fans and haters (he was booed off the stage at a Red Hot Chili Peppers show in 2007) must be doing something right. Songs "My Dick," "Jane Fonda" and "What Do You Say?" have appeared in Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, HBO series Entourage and The Hangover, respectively.
