All hail to the Mickster! Mickey Rooney was a dynamic child and teen performer who became an American icon with the enormously popular Andy Hardy film series. Columbia Pictures' biggest star during much of the 1930s and '40s, the diminutive lad lived and loved harder than Keith Richards and James Brown put together. Once the sun set on movies that featured sparkly-eyed teens offering "Hey kids, let's put on a show!" as the eternal answer to farm foreclosures and world wars, Rooney became a respected character actor. He now spends his golden years wowing the senior set with stage antics and vocalizing -- Rooney's pipes sound as ancient as they truly are, but his jumpin' big band really cooks.
