Mighty Sam McClain
A purveyor of the raw, earthy sound born and bred in the Muscle Shoals Studios of Alabama, Mighty Sam McClain has made it through the Soul boom of the 1960s and continues to record vital Soul in the classic tradition to this day. After steeping his voice in the energized Gospel recitals of his youth, he went on to record just a few singles during Soul music's heyday in the mid-1960s (one of which was a version of Patsy Cline's "Sweet Dreams" and all of which are now deemed as classics). Another fifteen years would pass after his last single in 1971 before he would record again. Throughout the 1990s he has released a series of well-received, hard-hitting Soul records -- which saw this Southern Soul star receive the respect denied to so many of R&B's pioneers.
