Ascenceur Pour L'Echafaud (Soundtrack)
by Miles Davis
Released: Jan 1958
Miles cut this excellent soundtrack to this French New Wave crime movie back in 1957. You don't need to see Louis Malle's ironic noir film to enjoy this decidedly cool bop session. Davis, drummer Kenny Clarke and a small group of solid French jazz musicians reportedly improvised the score as the film played in front of them in real time. The original album sequence begins with "Generique" (AKA -- the movie's title theme).
