This one is an oddity -- a Miles Davis "best of" CD that is recommended for serious fans instead of neophytes. Because Miles Davis never cut any sessions as a leader for Verve Records, the label had to be very creative in putting this set together. The opening four tracks are the best, as they feature Davis with Michel Legrand's all-star dream band from the late 1950s. The midsection features Davis' fine original soundtrack to the French crime movie Elevator to the Gallows. The last four cuts feature Davis when he first came to fame playing with Charlie Parker.
